It's funny in life how we feel completely compelled to keep our promises to the ones who wouldn't even realize if our promises are kept or not.
My Dad died earlier this year-and both in his last month of life and again at his memorial to a large group people...I promised to put a pen to paper. I think a lot of people's reaction was "It's about time!"
So I decided to start this blog. Although right now it feels like the most natural thing in the world to do this I did not always have this positive view on blogging. Facebook, blogging, tweeting etc...actually scares me a lot. It makes me feel scared of becoming more excited to write about my life than live my life. Makes me fearful of befriending people I barely know rather than nurturing the close friendships I already have. Just like I have always sort of stayed away from alcohol because I don’t even like the thought of becoming addicted to something so good-I am afraid that I will easily become addicted to my blog. I always thought I might lose myself in a blog. But what I am realizing lately is that maybe it is just the place that I will find myself again?
There were three people and comments that really did me in by three very different people about beginning to write:
The first was from my long lost half aunt from Australia whom I did not know even existed before I was a teenager! The day after my Dad died she was over at our place for dinner and she says to me- "Hey so what book are you going to write? "
I say "A Bestseller-only problem is that I don’t know what it’s going to be about yet" She says " Just write.” So I do.
Next person in line is one of my best friends; my Soulkeeper who I say to " I am NOT a writer-I am a Corporate Executive! “She turns to me and says "Maybe you are a writer. Write " So I do.
Thirdly, another one of my best friends, my sister Savvy inspires me by her new blog “Raising Flowers and Skids” She keeps reaffirming to me that " imitation is the biggest form of flattery". Flattered enough Savvy! Poor thing. I debated the whole blog idea with her for hours in the rain at Trent, our cottage, when she recently came for a visit, and then ended up starting one myself.
So here I am. My blog will be about many things since I am many different things to many different people. Part of it will be educational since I have studied and coached so much about motherhood, work life balance, and parenting over the years I figure it’s time to share my secretsJ I also don’t want to forget when my kids ask me one day "What is the best way to get a six month old to sleep? " or “What do you do when your kid starts hitting you when they are supposed to be on a time out?” In a way this is my legacy. I have spent so many billions of hours thinking about all of this stuff, reading about this stuff, learning about this stuff, applying this stuff and obsessing about this stuff-I figure " this stuff " at least deserves a blog no?
The other part of this blog is that I need some serious help myself in many areas and am counting on my readers to give it to me! My latest area of development is called " How does a parent possibly survive the heartaches and breaks of the preteen years? " or "what do you do when you ask your once talkative kid how their day was and they look at you as though you are an intruder and say “fine” and walk out of the room? ".
For the most part though this is a blog for me, myself and I. A journey. A discovery. A new way to do things and a brand new way to connect to others. A way of letting go of my old ways and making some room for something more. A way of looking my fears right in the face and telling them they are unnecessary. It’s a way to channel all of my abundance of energy into somewhere productive instead of solely into the chore lists and social lives of my poor children. It’s a way to grow and to change, to teach and to learn.
You will see I am a complicated girl and through my writing this will be evident. I am a girl who is and has a life full of paradoxes. I am hard core corporate woman-but a creative and artistic too. I am super organized and in control-but piles of my clothes are thrown on my floor daily. I love my business powers suits as much as love my pajamas. I love getting fancy and expensive haircuts and highlights but rarely take time to blow-dry my hair. People around me think I am a super extrovert but mostly I enjoy being alone. I am considered a parenting expert to many-but daily I question my own parenting. I am Martha Stewart decorator-but I can’t cook an egg. I can travel around the world on business trips but can’t make it to my cottage alone in a car. I obsess about my kid’s routines, what they eat, their schoolwork and preparing for the next day, but have no problem sending them to sleepaway camp and not speaking to them for 2 weeks. I love my husband to bits-but often have trouble remembering to kiss and hug him daily. I am as sweet as I am feisty-playful as I am fierce. I can be a real sweetheart-and I can be a real bitch. I am in control-but lose it easily.
There are also many consistencies about me so don’t be too scared. I am always on time. I always make lists. I always carry an agenda and I always tell the truth (well ok maybe not always but really most of the time). I am obsessed with water, lakes, beaches, swimming, pools, watersports and boats and this never changes. I LOVE cottage life. I am always open to feedback and good at handing out feedback and recognition myself to others. I am a good friend, daughter and sister and always nurture these relationships. I am a Mom who strives and cares and never gives up. I am a wife who never ever gives up and is transparent and honest. I am really good at the work I do and very fast, efficient and organized. I ALWAYS deliver either at work or at home and I always, always keep my promises ….
So this one’s for you Dad. I promised you I would start writing and I am keeping to this promise. To all of you who think I am a writer..you do know a beast is being unleashed eh? Watch out !!!!

Pleased to Meet You...
My "real" bio below:
I live in a village, me Lucky Girl, with my Protector always by my side. Together he and I raise our three cubs: Chase,(13) Bear (11) and Beauty (9).
In this village I have very important teachers who have basically taught me everything I know and inspire me daily. My Teachers of Transformation, my Teachers of Beauty and my Teachers of Peace.
Right beside me, all the time in my circle of life whom surround me closely and daily are my Heartbeat, my Sister Savvy , my Soulkeeper, and both my Brother Boys.
My very close community is made up of Chiffon Chez Vetos , Sister Schopenhauer, Sweethearts, Holidays, Childhood Wonder and New Heights.
I protect my village fiercly...and they protect me.
Gosh I'm a lucky girl.
I always seem to be searching for something..usually sun. The strange part about all of this is that really it's often in rain that I really fully find myself and connect with my people.
Often I find we are all searching for something to make us happy …..when it is already there right in front of us.
On a sunny day happiness is dictated to me. On cloudy days I have to search for it.
