I am getting pretty good with going with the flow.
We are in Punta Cana right now the five of us and had a
great day and a half so far. Very low-key, lots of relaxation and lots of being
together. Some hot sun in the morning that was amazing and a ton of cloud most
the rest day but still warm and still nice on the beach. Very warm.
Everything about this trip so far is different than what
was planned and expected-and that is ok.
First of all we were supposed to be 6. My Mom was supposed
to be here-just like she was supposed to me on our BFF mother daughter trip in
March. Both have not happened-so it leaves me with feeling the first few days
as it did in March with sadness and shock that she is not here. And then I feel
better after a few days. But the first few days everything I do I think” my Mom
would love this” or what isn’t my Mom here?”
We chose this place for my Mom and us together. No kids here….lots
of family time….so it’s a different experience. Different and good-but also different
and sad.
But we are spending lots of great quality time together
as a family still and that is the whole point. There are literally no other teens
which make for our kids spending a lot of time together and a lot of time with
us. I think this id a good thing really-but in the end the jury is out on it.
Maybe a big teen vacay would be great too-but I figure these are the years to
hog our kids to ourselves so why not stretch it out?
We had it in our minds that the three rooms would likely not
be near each other so lots of couple time…and that the kids would take walks
with Didi on the beach and Beauty would share a room with Did and they likely would
find some other teens. But in the end it
is the five of us together all the time and that is great too.
Our rooms are even connecting! And the kids refuse to let
us close the door! They can’t seem to get enough of us..weird teens! They want
to be in our bed and room all the time and talking to us and doing whatever we
do-it’s funny!
Everything was smooth for the arrival and such amazing
staff here. We even have our own butler named Felix who is amazing. He was the
one who arranged for these connecting rooms! Thanks Felix! Guess I won’t be
wearing all the pretty lingerie I brought. He also stocked our minibar and the
two preferred service bars with non-alcoholic beer for Hubby..That was so kindJ (arranged by me yes but
very kind nonetheless).
And yesterday we went for a swim the five of us under the
moon. Today some hot sun to start the day which was awesome and the lot of
sports in the clouds. Hubby taught boys to windsurf and Beauty got a private
bowling lesson since the only teen here. Boys lots of beach volleyball with Old
Russian people and I personally plopped myself on a chair and read.
And the food is super super yummy here. We are not fans
of going to restos all the time but the food is great.
I miss my mommy and worry about her too. It’s a different
vacation that what is supposed to be. I am still trying to get my head around
that-but I am going with the flow.
I love this little family and happy they still cherish these
moments with us. It’s really precious when you think about it.
We are booking an Excursion Beauty and I with the dolphins
and the boys a boogie quad. Then some surfing lessons too. In between I will
get a massage and chill a lot, eat a lot and enjoy each other relaxing a lot. Am still praying for some much clearer skies. We
will have sleep in eachother’s rooms and
watch movies on two night and get some quality time in with the kids individually.
2014 has been a twist of the unexpected and going with
the flow.
This trip is no different. But we are all here happy and
healthy (well Chase is his normal hypochondriac self when in a different country
asking about tourista and where the nearest hospital is “just in case” but what
else is new with Chase!!!!.And I am looking into the patio window now and see
two teens cuddled up to their Dad on the bed and laughing at videos on the
internet. One is on the next balcony to me enjoying his computer and the warm
air and palm trees.
It’s amazing to have a week off and just be….and not
stress. I love the freedom of it all. I love no deadlines or real places to go,
or watches or emails or texts. I like getting away from the worry and stress
and life in general. It’s what vacation is all about isn’t it?
It’s time for me to switch gears and know that my Mom
would want me to forget about what was supposed to be and enjoy what is in
front of me fully.
I am off to the American pub- and then a Jacuzzi on the
balcony with my hubby (and probably the kids!!!) to do just thatJ Just simply enjoy.
