Arrived in Arenal

The adventure part of our trip begins! A whole other world so far from the resort like surfer world of Tamarindo.

This morning Hubby and I woke up very early-opened all the doors to feel the tropical air, cuddled in bed and then went down the two of us to the pool at 7:30am. Then we ate our last breakfast on the balcony with the kids and headed down for our last swims before cleaning up the condo.

Our driver arrived and the adventure began. It was not Norman. How could that be? Norman was confirmed as our driver for the whole trip! Oh well we had Erik. Not much English…no local resto on the way as planned on the 4 hr drive. We went with the flow.

Stopped at a somewhat cute resto and had a great pina colada and chicken tacos very traditional. The drive was very long after 4 hrs and many swerving bumpy roads. Not for the faint at heart! The last 30 mins Hubby was nauseous..poor guy-his foot is hurting as hell (mystery foot issues last 8 weeks and has to limp everywhere) and he broke his clip-on sunglasses so now has to ration his contact lenses so he can wear sunglasses so wears one a day in one eye so he can read a menu with one eye closed! Poor guy!

Arrived at Arenal Spring hotel. Very lush and green and tropical and overlooking the volcano right out of our window. It looks like a lovely and quaint hotel with lots of sitting areas. Lots of frogs, snakes, bugs, birds, Beatles.

We arrived to our suite. A suite means two rooms right? Or a sitting room and a bedroom? Or a bedroom and a little hallway? I guess not! Nope one little room with two beds and a cot on the floor (with the snakes) . A tiny bathroom with a cool almost outdoor shower and a very sweet little balcony.Oh ya and no cupboards to put anything in or shelves for anything for the bathroom. The room is the size of my daughter’s room at home-maybe smaller. PS her room is medium and PSS we are 5 people.

We managed though! I am messy at home but never on vacation. I put systems into place as my first priority. This suite was no exception. We will certainly bond here….we hear everyone’s conversation at all times, everyone in the bathroom, everyone snoring. We hear it all!

We went to have a light dinner in the amazing thermal springs. There is a swim up sushi bar that was really awesome. Ordered sushi and snacked away under the waterfalls. Until someone screamed there was a snake in the thermal springs and the bartender asked what color.

“Red”

And all the sudden security was called and a bunch of guys with nets arrived in the pool. Never a good sign eh?

Then began the obsession of Beauty which I imagine will go on and on and on for the next 5 days. Yup the gal can talk over and over and over again about how scared she is of bugs and possible snakes. The fun begins!!! No future mission for her.

We came back to the safety of our little room and are now all in bed. Me and Beauty. Bear on the floor, Chase somewhere outside for the moment. It’s different. But nice and cozy too. This part of the trip will be polar opposite to the first part and unique and wonderful in its own…just the way I wanted it.
Tomorrow we traded in our ATV tour for a safari float down the river. We decided the ATV was over our budget-this trip is costing a fortune in excursions and food so cutting some. Plus all of us want to keep our tans and see some more monkeys…..so we scaled it down a bit. We will then go into town in La Fortuna and have some lunch and get some food for the room. I have never met 4 hungrier people-man these people snack.

If I am lucky I will grab some time in the hammock in front of our room for some reading tomorrow afternoon and then try to fit in a chocolate massage at the spa. We shall see what the day holds….
I realized today why I am craving some alone time. It has been 18 months without a trip alone with Hubby. We had two weekends alone in 18 months at the cottage…and every weekend the 5 of us at cottage pretty much. Has been some intense family time these last couple of years with all time off spent with the kiddies and skiing has been really intense too at cottage.

Going with the Flow. And the flow is pretty awesome. I love my little noisy, crazy family.

Hi Mama Bear!!!! miss and love you:))
