The Unexpected Costa Rica

So many people we know have come here. All have had great things to say but none have raved about the beach or food. So we were so delighted and surprised to love both. A lot. The beach is not Caribbean but if you have kids who love to surf –this is the place for sure. And I find it quite lovely with the darker sand and waves and sunset and lush trees.

And the condo. OMG! For less per night than a squished hotel room-three bathrooms, two bedrooms. Gorgeous balcony, two bedrooms, kitchen, two TVS…amazing pool…this is a steal and I love it. When we sell our family home in about 9 yrs. Hubby and I will move to a similar layout to this in Montreal.

Ok so today is only about the food. Two great meals today:

1-Walters: best spaghetti and chicken kebabs and spaghetti olio. All right on the beach on the cutest table. We went in the ocean while we waited. Then cookie dough milkshakes at the Surf Shack-heavenly

2-Dinner –we walked around randomly trying to find the perfect place for our last meal here. I love that about Taramindo…and the non-inclusive formula-everything is so good and plentiful in terms of choice and it is fun to choose. Tonight was “Wok and Roll” Best meal yet. AMAZING Indian samosas with mango and hot sauce and rice paper spring rolls. Chase had sushi and Beauty and I pad tai and Bear and Hubby build your own stir-fry’s. We had the best best meal and ate every last bite. At the end we almost re-ordered the appetizers as could not fathom not ever tasting that taste again-but decided to not to overdo it and end the meal on the high note.

Today was a good day-the kids met a girl 18 yrs. who they surfed with and hung out with at the pool and we chatted with her family too who were nice.

My mood is odd. Good and relaxed in general but of course the fact that my whole life has changed so recently is always there on my mind so I am more irritable with the kids than usual on vacation. Also my hormones are all over the place as took the pill to stop my period (sorry boy readers!). But I am just accepting this is where I am at. I can’t be perfect or always so strong. I have been through a lot the last few weeks and my mood is a little all over the place. I have my moments and am doing my best after such a shock to my system. I am proud of me, but I think my family wants me to be in an even better mood all the time. It’s hard as I am very much in my own thoughts lots of the time.
And overall there are many great moments.

Tomorrow we are off to Arenal volcano region-and have a driver coming at 1pm for the 3.5 hr drive with a stop to a local resto he will recommend. It’s all about the food!

We are thrilled with the unexpected pleasures of Tamarindo. And also how much relaxation we got here. It was the perfect timing for the first half of the trip.
