Our Tamarindo Beach Routine

sorry for typos no time to edit (too busy enjoying the birds, the view and trying to read my Oprah magazine over toast ad nutella with my sweet husband my my side)

We are getting into a little routine here. My family loves routine- and so do I! We all thrive on it even if we don’t admit it always. We are boring for stuff like that.
So Hubby and I get up pretty early like at 7:30am as we go to bed early like at 10:30pm. We sit on the balcony and look at the gorgeous views of the sparkling pool and mini jungle with our books and I-pads and we chat over coffee (for him). Then the kids get up one by one and come sit with us and eat their breakfast and chat on the balcony. It’s just super nice… And we listen to the beautiful sounds of nature.
Then by about 10:30 am we go to the pool and just really have a great time splashing around. Then the beach is so so so windy. We rent chairs and umbrellas there and it is soooooooooooooooo hot. And so beautiful.

We play in the waves. I have never seen waves like this in my life. It is the most exhausting of experiences to be in the ocean as the waves are unrelenting. My bikini almost fell off about 6 times today. We take boogie boards out and it is truly superb. Then we go for lunch. Today we did a simple Subway sandwiches as cheaper. Was fun to tastes the Latin difference in the sauces from back home. Then the boys have their two hours of surf and man are they getting good!

There are the 4 S’s that Hubby and I have always made sure to committing our kids do and learn properly: skiing, swimming, sailing and surfing. Done! We prefer  to focus on and encourage and invest in these to team sports etc. as feel they are family activities that the kids will take with them for life and be able to do with their own kids as a family…or better yet we can take their kids for all this stuff and sit by the sidelines and enjoy our grandchildren doing things we also loveJ).

During the surf we hang out with Beauty in the waves and she and I sneak into private pools—gosh the girl is smart-she found a way to change the color of our bracelets! I know bad mommy but I don’t care I am on vacation! It was a deeply bonding mischievous experience.

Then around 5pm we headed back to the pool and swam again and read and then it is condo time where everyone does what they want to do (kids Facebook etc. of course!)
The boys all ventured out to a new market tonight to get some food as these kids are starving. Oh ya on the way back from the beach we get Hagen Daaas ice-cream which is such a treat. I am loving this trip so far and reading and sleeping and not thinking too much about work (or about my being laid off more precisely!) Except for some bad nightmares here and there and an obsession to think about the fact my career is gone the moment my eyes open in the morning-I am able to unwind and relax and feel good.
Tonight we head out for our fancy night. Steak cooked on volcanic rocks. It is Easter after all..Although doesn’t feel like it much! We will celebrate Easter and do our Easter hunt when back home with Didi at her place.

Tomorrow is our nature kayak tour to see white faced monkeys and crocodiles. I am still trying to figure out how we go near crocodiles in kayaks….oh well trust the process. We saw massive iguanas today which were pretty cool. The day after that we are taking a taxi to Flamingo beach and exploring there before surfing at 4pm on high tide. Back on Tamarindo.

This leg of the vacation is very different than I expected and very relaxing. I am dreaming up all sorts of plans in my little head for the next 10 months..business ones…trip ones..Friend ones….all sorts of things. I am in awe that I am able to relax and enjoy this trip and my family after such a shock to my system juts two weeks ago. I have built up some serous resilience over the last couple of years. So far-costa Rica is lovely. I am so glad we came here.

PSS- The grumpiest seemed much better tonight. We ended up cancelling our fancy night at a resto-there is something about getting all dressed up on vacation (or anytime that is not work or a wedding to be honest!) that juts irks us all. Its vacation…so put on a sundress and flip-flops or beach shorts and a tank (or in my daughters case very  short little shorts and a cute little tank top) and go out and enjoy.
And so we did.

We went this back alley way to these kind of back alley restos that are more local (aka a bar that was called “suck my cocktails” was on the same street!!!! Lol) and we found a cute little seafood resto. It was a great evening and although the food appeared great it was so -so. Hubby had amazing Mahi-mahi with lime and cilantro and the rest of us had good food but not the great food we were used to so far here. But the point is that is was super fun exploring and just being true to our more casual selves and had some great family conversations. Our work and school uniforms provide us enough of an excuse to dress up daily-we don’t need it here too!

On the way back we found a great gelato place all tucked and hidden away and strolled back leisurely with that in hand. Once at the condo the kids are watching all the super old DVD’s  (Forest Gump)that are here and it is fun to watch them hang out together and do this and not always be individually on their devices (more on this later as deserves a whole other post)

Off to the crocodiles soon in our kayaks!!
